'Freibergite' is no longer a mineral species in its own right, but a subgroup within the Tetrahedrite Group. It was always considered to be the silver-bearing equivalent of Tetrahedrite, but the revision of the entire Tetrahedrite-Tennantite series in 2020 has now created tens of new species with 'Freibergite' now divided into Argentotetrahedrite-(Hg), Argentotetrahedrite-(Fe), Argentotetrahedrite-(Cd), Kenoargentotetrahedrite-(Fe) and Kenoargentotetrahedrite-(Zn). There is no published data yet on the relatively new 'Freibergite' found at Melgarejo mine in Potosí, Bolivia so, although these are considered to be the finest examples of 'Freibergite' crystals, the exact species remains unconfirmed. This stunning miniature specimen features an excellent individual dark grey tetrahedral crystal, reaching 2 cm across, on matrix. The crystal has rounded edges, but displays wonderful form and is free from damage. Simply a perfect 'Freibergite' crystal.
