This is just a classic, iconic Tsumeb style of azurite, and the kind of azurite NOT replicated in form or style from any other locality in 100 years. This kind of style, of brilliant azurite combined with velvety sprays of malachite patterning, was and remains iconic to Tsumeb. This is a super-sharp pair of azurite crystals showing only a small amount of alteration to malachite (pseudomorphism), and then accented by some cerussite. The two big, beautiful, midnight blue azurite crystals have tremendous luster with sharp faces and chisel-point terminations. The two crystals make a broad V-shape and measure 7 and 4 cm, respectively. Both crystals show a minor amount of incipient replacement by malachite as velvety radiating patches with a faint radial structure; and the larger crystal showing more than the smaller one. There are light striations on some of the crystal faces, as subtle accents. The large crystal is complete with the smaller one having only a small divot out of the back of the crystal that cannot be seen from the display side. This spectacular piece is highlighted by ridges of tan-gray cerussite along the front that exhibit a reticulated structure visible on the underside. Additionally, 1.7 cm crystals emplaced on the upper portion of the shorter azurite crystal give added aesthetics and character. This is a beautifully composed and well balanced piece with remarkable azurites! A signature azurite specimen in any collection. This was obtained for Dr. Pohl from the important Tsumeb collection of Marshall and Charlotte Sussman in the early 2000s by Star Van Scriver. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher #SCH535
