Tucson, Arizona, USAFor a copper mine renowned for so many wonderful minerals, Tsumeb mine did not produce many really fine distinctive Malachite specimens other than the obvious pseudomorphs after Azurite. At 5.5 cm in diameter this 'ball' of Malachite is a really distinctive specimen. A little white Calcite can be seen on the reverse, but the wonderful spherical outline can be presented uninterrupted. Unusually, the acicular Malachite crystals have not grown outwards from one central point, but the surface is made up of hundreds of small feathery aggregates bunched together. One or two areas on the surface have been lightly rubbed, but overall it looks in very fine condition and displays wonderfully.
