This specimen is a rare gem euclase that comes from the same famous district that produces the emeralds in Colombia. These blue euclase crystals rarely seem to trickle out of the emerald mines, and only in small quantities. They are treasured by miners and have been called "blue emeralds" for their high value. Euclase is fragile in nature, and few crystals reach large size with perfect development. This is a rather large crystal, a full competition sized robust thumbnail specimen. It is a classic seafoam blue-green color, and glows with inner light when well lit. It is often published, from the collection of Alex Schauss of Tucson, and was shown in many of his awards cases (although, sadly, with a sidecar pyrite glued to it by unscrupulous miners at some point when it went to market — we have removed the glued pyrite association). This single gem crystal is complete all around.
