A magnificent ruby-red ruby on marble matrix from Afghanistan, that is actually a rare level of quality to compete with Burmese material! This crystal is superb, and measures 2 x 1.7 x 1 cm in size. It is excavated with care in the lab to preserve its natural orientation and the contrasting white matrix is like a pedestal, presenting you with this red treasure. The color is shocking in person, combined with excellent waxy luster we want on top ruby specimens. It is well balanced overall and is likely from older finds. Note the chevron crystal patterning atop the termination for added subtle detail. Final photo shows strong fluorescence, as is typical of many Afghan rubies and some Burmese.
