A classic and well formed, textbook crystal of natural blue sapphire from the famous gem deposits of Mogok in Myanmar (Burma). This is not gemmy (or the price could have 2 more zeroes on it and most of us would not want that, so it would be cut!!) but it is translucent when backlit and it has a very pleasing pastel color combined with a natural waxy luster. Most large sapphires of this size get worn and rounded, or broken, but this is fairly nice and is a fine specimen of this important gem species. From the Bill Larson Burma collection, obtained in the 1990s. Note fluorescence under UV light.
