Azurite (Easter Pocket)
This special miniature is a rare thing indeed, a perfect miniature from the famous Easter Pocket of 1994, brought out by Georg Gebhard at the time...it is also the one he has kept all these years — until now. It is pristine and complete all around, with crystals to just under 3 cm across and they are sharp and lustrous and distinct for this find. These unique tabular-style crystals of azurite come from only a single famous find, the Easter Pocket on the 8th level of Tsumeb Mine in 1994. This pocket, well-described in detail in Dr. Gebhard's book TSUMEB II (he is the author of a number of books on Tsumeb), not only produced superb azurite specimens but actually showed us a new tabular crystal habit for the species! It is one of the 2 or 3 best known "named" unique azurite pockets from Tsumeb, along with the Perkin Sams and Kegel azurite pockets. These crystals still are distinct from anything from anywhere else, and stand as a Tsumeb legacy. This is the miniature that he kept back, himself, from handling the pocket all those years ago.
