Tucson, Arizona, USAThe copper deposits at Nizhnii Tagil in the Ural Mountains in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia are some of the most famous in the world - having provided the banded material used to produce the famous Malachite columns in the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg and countless ornamental carvings. Fine botryoidal and polished specimens are seen in many historic European collections dating from the early 19th century but old-time specimens are now rarely seen available. This cabinet-sized piece comes from David Hardman's collection and probably originates from an older collection as he undertook many trades with museum's during the 1960s and 1970s. It is not perfect, as it has been bruised on the surface in several places, but it has the potential to produce a number of good-sized cut and polished slices. An old-time classic.
