Azurite with Malachite
Tsumeb mine in Namibia has furnished the mineral cabinets of the world with some exceptional Azurite crystals. Their form, more so than places like Chessy in France and Bisbee in Arizona, is much more bladed, with sharper narrower edges and the crystals can reach exceptional size. This individual bladed Azurite crystal (with a smaller crystal in tow) is quite substantial and really nicely formed on a tiny piece of intergrown matrix. It is not as gemmy as some, but at 5 cm in length, and with extremely well-defined faces it is a really lovely specimen and displays the monoclinic crystal form really well. The main crystal shows minor internal alteration to Malachite associated with where the Azurite becomes paler blue, the 'fresher' edges being a much glossier deeper blue in colour. On the reverse side, the crystal is slightly modified where the matrix joins but its main faces and edges are in great condition. A super individual Azurite crystal.
