Fluorite
Unknown Owner
This might be miniature in size, but it is certainly a choice Fluorite from the famous Annabel Lee mine in the Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District. Comprising two intergrown matrixless crystals, individually reaching 2.6 cm on edge, the most obvious feature of this piece is the bright gemminess of the Fluorite and its beautiful colour zoning. Its body colour is a rich amber, but with a prominent thin purple band near to its edges, followed finally by a colourless outer layer. This colour zoning is classic from Annabel Lee mine and although admittedly small, this is a really superb example. Its front edges are in excellent condition with good sides with the rear fractured away. Minor Chalcopyrite inclusions further add to its character.
