Tucson, Arizona, USAThis delightful miniature crystallized Chalcocite comes from the famous Bristol Copper mine, Bristol, Hartford Co., Connecticut. This interesting mine - an East Coast classic - worked intermittently from 1836 until about 1953 but it is thought that most of the best Chalcocite specimens came out during the 1840s when a number of prominent Yale-based scientists and collectors recovered specimens before they were dispatched as ore. This fine specimen is entirely Chalcocite and is dominated by a really lovely 1.4 cm long complex stepped crystal, but the base from which it rises is also crystallized Chalcocite, the whole with a really fine dark steely-grey colour, metallic lustre and characterful iridescent patches. The whole specimen is in excellent condition. Ex David Hardman collection no. 2703.
