Tucson, Arizona, USAGrand Reef mine in Arizona is one of the best known localities worldwide for crystallized Linarite. This lead copper sulphate hydroxide is far from being rare worldwide, but it rarely forms rich visible bladed crystals. This small cabinet specimen presents exceptionally well, featuring glossy vibrant royal blue bladed crystals to nearly 1 cm in length, but it is the way they sit upon their mottled iron-stained Quartz matrix which makes them stand out. The open, slightly concave Quartz-lined vug makes for the perfect backdrop to the several large Linarite crystals and sprays and an area of white Anglesite crystals on one side of the cavity adds additional interest. The brick red-orange phase seen in association is intriguing. It has not been analysed but could be either Cuprite, Litharge or Minium. Overall, on a world scale, this is a really superb Linarite, comparing extremely favourably against classics from Red Gill mine in the UK.
