The Landes meteorite, found at Landes, Grant County, West Virginia, USA, was found in 1930, but not properly recognized until 1968. The story goes that it was ploughed up in a field and left for 38 years outside a barn where it showed little sign of deterioration. It had a total known weight of 69.8 kg. It is a Nickel-Iron meteorite: a Silicated Iron (IA). This large thumbnail sized cut cuboid has 6 cut surfaces, the largest two being 2.8 x 1.7 cm in area and the iron component is still bright and fresh. It weighs 16.5 g. Ex David Baker.
