Ferrokësterite is a very rare dimorph of Stannite and the best crystals ever recovered were from the San Jose Mine in Bolivia in late 2004, but were thought to be Stannite and weren't determined to be the much more rare species, Ferrokësterite, until 2012! The mineral is a scarce copper-iron-tin sulfide and is visually indistinguishable from Stannite. This first-class miniature features one large and one small cluster of metallic gray crystals perched on brassy yellow, brilliant metallic, drusy Pyrite crystals for optimal contrast. The large cluster at the apex of the piece consists of a few interpenetration twins of Kesterite to 1.5 cm with the cluster's largest dimension at 2.8 cm, which is large for the species! The smaller group is comprised of two, flattened, 1.7 mm crystals. This is an exceptional and very attractive piece for the species that is complete all around! The piece came out of a private and significant rarities collection (anonymous for now, but will be given to buyer), who purchased this directly from Brian Kosnar's Bolivian collection. Brian's label 9 and he had the best) notes that he valued this as a rare example on matrix from the find. A superb and important example.
