Muscovite and Albite
Muscovite is among one of the most ubiquitous minerals both inside and outside the collecting sphere, used in everything from cosmetics to 16th century Russian windows (in fact, it was this application that gave Muscovite its name, derived from 'muscovy'). Muscovite is in fact so prevalent that it becomes an easy species to overlook, unless you find a ridiculously good standout example like this monster from the Kennedy collection. The huge Muscovite sheets are stacked in such a way that the arrangement creates a layered, shadowbox effect, with crystals cascading up the back like a landscape scene. The books themselves are relatively loosely connected, so the side profile of the specimen shows some beautiful ribbing. This specimen comes with a custom acrylic base.
