Galena with Calcite and Chalcopyrite
There are few American Galena localities that are as classic as the Sweetwater Mine and this specimen in particular was noted as being one of the best pieces Dan acquired from Mark Kielbaso-a miner and dealer who primarily worked out of the nearby Brushy Creek Mine. The primary focal points of this specimen are two enormous, weighty cubes of Galena (reaching up to 8.3 centimeters in length) that are perched atop a matrix composed of white Calcite rhombohedrons, colorful groups of iridescent Chalcopyrite, and smaller associations of Galena. Each of the larger Galena crystals are sharply formed and have a nice metallic luster with a mild reflective quality. Both Galenas have a fairly complex surface, which nicely accents the metallic luster, and a very subtle ripple texture that is best seen up-close and in-person. There are a few associations of what is most likely Marcasite isolated around the specimen, mainly on the back side of the Galena. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
