Elbaite Tourmaline
Technically small miniature in size, this stunningly colourful Elbaite tourmaline crystal from Coronel Murta in Jequitinhonha Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil is captivatingly beautiful. The richness of its red tones means that it is probably what some would call a Rubellite. Renowned for its superb raspberry red Elbaite tourmaline crystals Coronel Murta has done us proud with this one. At 3.2 cm tall, it is small, but not only is this individual, matrixless crystal enchanting with its glorious colour shift from colourless to pale pink at its base upwards into a bubble-gum pink, raspberry-pink, raspberry-red and then strawberry red to orange-red termination, but its is supremely glassy with a perfect termination. Its termination is sharp, well-defined and free from damage, but most notably not the usual Coronel Murta flat pinacoid face, rather, a lovey six-sided pyramidal termination - the traditional three, but with the development of three extra smaller faces. These terminal faces are strikingly glassy and bright. Glassy and gemmy throughout, it is also full of internal reflections providing real character. A really beautiful Elbaite crystal, small, but of the highest quality. Mounted on a small acryllic base for display.
