Here is a stunning choice example of a gem diamond in matrix for any collection, for obvious reasons. Specimens of diamonds in the natural host rock matrix of kimberlites are few and far between on the market and generally come from Russia (primarily in the 90s-early 2000s). These are not recent, and the source does not allow any specimens out today, especially matrix ones. Many came out in the 90s as Russia opened up, including this piece, which has gone through several collections (including Bob Hiler and Bill Pinch's). This one stands out for sheer aesthetics, transparency, and luster all around - as a killer quality diamond crystal that is way beyond the norm for these. This is a competitive large thumbnail specimen with a diamond perched aesthetically in the kimberlite reflects superb luster and ice-clear transparency. Overall, a crystal size of just over 4mm on edge or just over 5 mm across the octahedron. One rarely sees these in such aesthetic balance. This specimen was purchased from noted collector Bill Pinch circa 5/13/2008. 25.31 x 24.93 x 10.98 mm.
