This well-provenanced miniature botryoidal Hematite var. Kidney Ore has a lovely surface texture and appearance. Fitting nicely into the palm of your hand it is very tactile, with its smooth bubbly surface texture. Unlike many that are shiny and dark grey, this one is duller and reddish-brown. Internally, the concentric layers display nicely. It is from the famous Hodbarrow mines and its small accompanying handwritten label records that it is from Moorbank Pit. Most specimens of Kidney Ore seen for sale are from "Ullcoats", so to have a really nice specific locality from one of the other famous pits is lovely.
