Fluorite with Quartz Galena and Siderite
Unknown Owner
From the 2016/2017 discoveries at Boltburn West mine at Rookhope, Weardale, comes this wonderful large cabinet display specimen displaying all of the distinctive features this find produced. Dominated by a sizable 5.3 x 4.4 x 3 cm twinned blue-grey Fluorite crystal, dark internally and paler around the edges, other much glassier pale teal-blue crystals form a skirt around one side. In between some of the Fluorite crystals are large (over 3 cm on edge) cubic Galena crystals, but these are concealed beneath a thin layer of small white and grey sparkling Quartz crystals. This Quartz and some of the Fluorite crystals on one side of the specimen are coated in a 5 mm thick layer of aggregated rosetted orange-brown Siderite crystals making for a highly distinctive assemblage. There is one small nick to the edge of the main Fluorite crystal but overall this large display specimen is in very fine order. A modern classic from this unique discovery.
