Linarite
This is an excellent old-time miniature classic from the Caldbeck Fells, Cumbria, England which has passed through many collections in its time. Its original typed label affixed to the back of it records its provenance as from "Cumberland" but it is clearly specifically from Red Gill mine - the source of England's finest Linarite crystals. Three numbers are also attached to the specimen, 366, 948 and 38556 - the latter belonging to E.D. Taylor whose larger label accompanies the specimen also. Ex Malcolm Southwood collection. The specimen is classic Red Gill mine oxidized Quartz-Chalcopyrite veinstone within which deep blue bladed Linarite crystals, to 4 mm in length, can be seen. There are a couple of really good individual crystals within cavities along with lots of colour from aggregates of Linarite. A lovely historic piece.
