This lustrous, super-sharp Rutile crystal is dramatically set in a cluster of tan to almost orange tinted crystallized Quartz. The 1.7 cm Rutile has textbook form for an untwinned crystal — with its slightly elongate prismatic habit, pyramidal termination and mirror-like faces. There are a couple of Rutile grains at the periphery and then some small crystals hiding at the base of the large Rutile with some Quartz crystals. If you look closely, there is a hairline crack at the base of the Rutile as it goes into the Quartz. It could be repaired, although we think unlikely — but it could be. It is not visible unless up close or head on (as in one photo). These came out in the late 1990s in one small batch and are now rarely available. A showy miniature from that find! Part of an educational set, with these additional items: Rutile ps. Anatase (SYP25-08b) and Anatase on Smoky Quartz (SYP25-08c).
