The Nikolaevskiy Mine opened in 1982 and mined for its base metal sulfides was justifiably famous for that suite of minerals as well as for Fluorite and Quartz. Pyrrhotite crystals from here can be exceptionally sharp and in some cases they are pseudomorphed by Pyrite, as in this excellent example. The hexagonal shape of the Pyrrhotite is very well preserved on three sides along with its sharp edges, along with much of the display face. Half of the front, one side and almost the entire back of the piece shows low-profile cubic mosaic of Pyrite to 1 cm, the one side consists of a tight cluster of Pyrite crystals to 7 mm and the back has some three-dimensionality to the dozens of Pyrite crystals located there. This is a great, scintillating pseudomorph of Pyrite after Pyrrhotite from Dalnegorsk! Part of an educational set, with these additional items: Pyrite (SYP25-22a) and Pyrrhotite with Quartz (SYP25-22c).
