The Chumar Bakhoor pegmatite field in Hunza Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan is one of the most remote mineral producing localities in the world, situated at an altitude of over 4,500 m above sea level. Nevertheless, it has furnished collections with some of the most remarkable Beryl var. Aquamarine crystals as well as some of the gemmiest Fluorite crystals ever seen. The Fluorite there occurs in several colours, but it is the pink to orange-pink intensely glassy crystals which are the most highly sought. This charming miniature specimen features exactly that, a 4.5 cm wide, pale orange-pink composite Fluorite crystal perched upon a bed of platy Muscovite mica crystals. The Fluorite crystal has wildly complex faces, all exceptionally glassy for Fluorite, and with a complexity that suggests that it may well be spinel-twinned. Ex Jesse Fisher collection.
