Rhodochrosite with Sphalerite and Pyrite
Unknown Owner
The Detroit City Portal mining operations began in 2017. This mine is approximately 300 feet, or 90 meters, above the old Sweet Home Mine workings that it was closed in 2004. The portal was removed and the entrance was cemented and reclaimed. The two mines do not connect but both of them have produced some of the highest-quality Rhodochrosite specimens in the world. This specimen is a very good example of the good quality of the specimens found there, it is formed by very well formed rhombohedral crystals of Rhodochrosite with sharp faces and edges, intense red color under artificial white lights and with very good brilliance. With a bit of matrix of Sphalerite and Pyrite crystals. A classic in perfect condition, no damage.
