Quartz var. Amethyst
Nowhere near as common as their South American counterparts, this old-time classic European Amethyst comes from the famous Banská Štiavnica (Schemnitz) occurence in Slovakia. Rich in history and rich in detail, this small cabinet specimen comes from the amazing collection assembled by brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) in Germany. In common with all of the great Amethysts from Banská Štiavnica, the crystals are full of detail, with many small terminated crystals crowded around slightly larger individual crystals. The base, as always, is Milky Quartz with the purple colour intensifying upwards to the terminations of the larger crystals. There is a tiny amount of chipping to one or two crystal points, but this is undoubtedly a very old specimen. An Eastern European classic.
