This is a remarkably fine display quality Vesuvianite from a classic Italian locale. The Monzoni mountains from which the rock Monzonite is named has been known to produce fine Vesuvianite crystals since at least the mid-1800s. Dating to pre-1955 - when it was recorded as having been bought by Prof. Dr H. Siegmund of Vienna - this small cabinet specimen is a beauty. An individual 1.4 cm diameter clove-brown Vesuvianite crystal sits wonderfully well for display upon streaks of finely crystallized pale green Grossular garnet with pods of massive blue Calcite - the classic combination from there. The Vesuvianite crystal is not perfect, but is undamaged, the rough lower faces being where it has not grown fully. However, the top faces are very nice and display a rather 'garnet' like appearance. What is really important here is that it is on matrix, and the classic matrix at that. Ex Prof. Dr H. Siegmund collection, no. 62.
