Rutile
The Pfitsch Pass is a remote alpine mountain pass dividing Austria and Italy, summiting at 2,251 m above sea level. This area of Zillertal in Tyrol has long been known for interesting minerals found within alpine clefts. Rutile is well known, but rarely in fine crystals, making this miniature specimen crowned with a 2 cm wide nicely formed Rutile crystal really nice indeed. The crystal is quite glossy, with a fine resinous lustre, and appears to be a twin. It is sat upon a matrix of schist. Ex Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) collection.
