Sometimes gem species look best as individual crystals, but this super Beryl var. Aquamarine from Bergsig Farm 167 (Hohenstein), Erongo, Namibia is telling me otherwise. As a cabinet-sized display specimen it looks amazing, with countless very gemmy pale blue Aquamarine crystals spraying out in all different directions from a white matrix. These crystals reach over 2 cm in length and most of them are perfectly terminated with very glassy, classic, flat pinacoid faces. Inevitably, some are contacted, but their overall glassiness, lovely colour and spectacular freestanding form means that they still look great. A really beautiful 3-dimensional Aquamarine plate from Bergsig Farm 167, probably from the remarkable discoveries made in 2000.
