Description
Calcite from Elmwood Mine, Illinois, USA. 20th Century.
Elmwood calcite is prized for gorgeous, doubly terminated, twinned crystals, and its propensity to exhibit an intense, “cognac” color. This exceptionally large, gemlike example has broad, lustrous faces, and a rich, golden tone. It is juxtaposed in color and texture by a deep red-brown sphalerite matrix. With its sumptuous hue, great size, and sculpturesque form, this example epitomizes the finest traits of its famed locale.
