Malachite from Shilu Mine, China. 20th Century.
Malachite most commonly forms botryoidal crystal aggregates deep in copper mines. The Shilu Mine which opened in 1960 and operated until 1998, is known for producing malachites in incredible stalactitic forms, setting the bar for the species. Undamaged and with beautifully formed stalactites, this malachite seems to defy gravity. The isolation and whimsical form, coupled with remarkable chatoyancy, and rich green color make it arguably the finest malachite stalactite specimen known.
