Quartz and Hematite from Jinlong Hill, China. 21st Century.
Quartz, a silicate mineral, is often associated with other species, and forms in an almost infinite range of shapes and colors. Here the orange-red color is the product of a wafer-thin coating of iron on the crystal surface due to the hematite association. Its crystals burst in every direction and are complemented by black hematite rosettes that add a perfect hint of contrast, accentuating the incredible aesthetics.
