Amethyst Scepter from Goboboseb Mountains, Namibia. 21st Century.
Brandberg is famed for amethyst, the best of which have brilliant luster, glasslike transparency, and decadent, deep purple color. Often, their color is concentrated within “phantom” color zones that are centered within the crystals. Scepters, like this eye-catching example, are a particular specialty of Brandberg. They tell the story of their growth through both color and shape. Keenly formed and rich in color, this is a prime example of the locale.
