Insanely saturated Cobaltoan Dolomite specimen from Mashamba West Mine. Top color, with sharp rhombohedral crystals and wet luster. Specimen is from the Mashamba West Mine in the southern Katanga Copper Crescent, of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mashamba West is known for producing high quality secondary Copper minerals, including Cobaltoan Dolomite. Cobaltoan Dolomite is less common than its Calcite counterpart, however both form when Cobalt replacement takes place in the structure of the crystal lattice and both are Carbonate crystals.
