Bournonite
Viboras mine at Machacamarca in Potosí Department, Bolivia has, since the very earliest years of the 21st century, been regarded as the source of some of the world's finest Bournonite crystals. Often a favourite with collectors due to its distinctive 'cog-wheel' appearance, the mantel of world's best has passed during the centuries from its Type Locality at Huel Boys in Cornwall, England in 1805, to Herodsfoot mine in the same county during the 1860s, to Yaogangxian mine in China in about 2009. However, the pendulum has swung back towards Viboras mine with the discoveries made in about 2019. This large cabinet piece shows the size, bright metallic gun-metal grey colour and lustre, and most importantly staggering definition of crystal form seen within these Bolivian specimens. These amazing crystals reach, on this specimen, over 3 cm in length and fan out in different orientations from a central 'island' on host rock on the main display surface. The quality is immense, and being large, it makes for a superb display specimen of this wonderful species.
