Pyromorphite
Annenberg near Monzelfeld in the Bernkastel-Wittlich District, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany is a small village with an ancient history of silver mining dating back to the 16th century. The area is well-known for Pyromorphite, formed through the oxidation of lead-bearing mineral veins, but rarely in such great crystallized specimens as this. Large miniature in size, this piece of Milky Quartz veinstone is overgrown with prominent, well-formed, slightly tapering elongated hexagonal prisms of yellow Pyromorphite reaching up to 8 mm in length. These crystals are glossy and in parts nicely translucent. It is from the superb worldwide systematic and localized German collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
