Pyromorphite from Roughton Gill in the Caldbeck Fells, Cumbria, England has been known about for over two centuries, but the hey-day of collecting was of course when the mines were active during the mid to late 1800s. This rich, and dense, miniature Pyromorphite was in the famous Greenbank Collection (no. PG.518) who obtained it from Secured Minerals in Kendal, Cumbria. Their notes, which accompany the specimen, reveal an interesting history, having been owned by George B. Frazar (1854-1930) in Massachusetts, USA. The specimen itself, is not immediately typical of Roughton Gill, although many different colours and crystal forms were produced. If anything, the crystals look more typical of Driggith Opencut nearby, although the colour is slightly off. An interesting historical piece from this famous British mineral producing region.
