This cabinet-sized specimen of Siderite on Quartz comes from South Crofty mine near Camborne in Cornwall, a mine with a long history and one of the last in Cornwall to close. The Siderite forms 2 to 3 mm wide lenticular crystals aggregated in rosettes carpeting iron-rich milky Quartz veinstone. It is extremely rich in Siderite, but the crystals are a much darker brown colour and less 'lustrous' than the most sought-after fudge-coloured resinous crystals seen from this mining region. Ex Ian Acworth collection.
