This very fine deep purple Fluorite is from neither Derbyshire nor Weardale, instead coming from the area inbetween, in North Yorkshire. From the intriguingly named "Stoat Pocket" at Elbolton mine in 2004, one cannot help conjuring up visions of a rather grumpy stoat chasing off mineral collectors. Miniature in size the quality of this piece is excellent. I cannot see any damage whatsoever on the display surface, where 2 cm wide cubes of Fluorite form an attractive intergrowth. These crystals are extremely dark purple in colour and matt, with a rough texture upon the surface, but this colour is from an extremely thin outer band, underneath which they are a creamy-grey colour and translucent. Consequently, with backlighting they become a vibrant purple colour and very attractive.
