The colour of this 11.7 cm tall individual Elbaite tourmaline crystal from the lithium pegmatites at Coronel Murta in the Jequitinhonha Valley, north-eastern Minas Gerais state, Brazil is stunning. It is a wonderful teal-blue which, with back-lighting really 'pops'. The crystal is very well terminated with the classic three-sided pyramid and has lovely textural naturally striated sides with vertical growth lines. Overall, the crystal tapers to its base and has a few small chips and scuffs along its edges, but the real reason that that is not a high four-figure piece is that it has two repairs both of which are visible in natural light. Otherwise, this is the perfect colour and has great overall shape and size.
