Cerussite reticulated 'snow-flake' twin
The famous Tsumeb mine in Namibia is not only legendary for its remarkable range of rare species found there, but for the quality of crystal form for some of its larger species. This is especially true of Cerussite - lead carbonate - which is known to form extremely large and complex crystals at the mine. This large miniature Cerussite specimen is the perfect example of the famous reticulated crystals, known as 'snow-flake' twins. This form of Cerussite is very unusual worldwide, and when seen, is usually as thin layers of crystals on matrix. However, at Tsumeb mine much of the Cerussite is seen off-matrix, as large individual crystals, or large complex crystallized aggregates. The twinning seen in this specimen is text-book quality, and with a very pure white colour it does look like a giant snowflake. With virtually no damage around the specimen and a wonderful resinous lustre, it is an exceptional example worthy of being put on display.
