Tucson, Arizona, USAThe orange Spessartine garnet crystals from Wushan Spessartine mine, Tongbei, Zhangzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province, China are really fine on a world scale. Not only do they possess a really rich orange colour with great translucency, but they have a exceptional form to them too. They are not quite so gemmy as the famous Grossular garnets from Jeffrey mine in Canada, but share the majestic stunning stepped crystal faces. Under magnification the Spessartine crystals (which reach 3 mm in diameter) on this miniature specimen from Wushan Spessartine mine are beautiful, and show the crystal form wonderfully. The combination with four aligned, and stepped Smoky Quartz crystals, a long 'book' of Muscovite mica crystals and the contrasting cream coloured Microcline matrix is really nice.
