A big, dramatic and imposing Fluorite from Xianghualing mine in Linwu County, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China. This mine has produced some of the world's finest green Fluorite crystals, usually in shades of pale mint green, and often with a glassy lustre to the extreme. The best specimens appear to have been mined during the 1990s and early 2000s and that is possibly when this specimen was obtained by Arvid Pasto for his renowned Fluorite collection. Forming a pure aggregate of very large (up to 6 cm on edge) interlocking cubic crystals with superbly defined sharp edges, this is a wonderfully crystallized Fluorite. With a rich sage-green to mint-green colour and unusual zonation with internal creamy white to orange-brown layers, this is quite a distinctive piece. The quality of the crystals is top class, with no obvious damage. The flood of Chinese Fluorite specimens twenty or so years ago is long gone, but I feel that these high quality classics are still not appreciated for the quality that they undoubtedly are. Time will tell, but you would struggle to find a comparable specimen of this quality from anywhere else in the world - a fine, colourful, and large crystallized Fluorite.
