Description
This is an important and large USA origin epidote, with crystals to 2 inches perched on matrix of calcite, from a remote Island location closer to Russia than it is to the mainland USA. Calcite is rare here; and I cannot recall seeing such a piece, although we sometimes see a quartz association. The specimen is dramatic and impactful, with high luster on the epidote, which reach to near 2 inches. It has a dramatic look. Complete in front, contacted in back. We see what seems to be (at a guess) an old Smithsonian number on the back (33482) and we know that jack had a group of these from Walt Lidstrom, at least 3 of which came from the Smithsonian. Jack has no older label with it, but we are assuming this was one of that group of specimens, which he obtained in the 1970s.
