Jack affectionately called this his "Tower of Wulfenite" and it is indeed unique in its aesthetics! The piece is massive and huge, and yet simultaneously elegant and fine...with a rare quality to the crystals themselves which is as important as the shape, the sculptural composition. The tower of crystals rises up vertically, and these individual "caramel cubes" of wulfenite reach 2 cm in size. The piece is shockingly pristine - maybe the most pristine large example of this material I have seen. It is certainly old, from the 1960s or 1970s, and yet somehow survived. The stream of crystals is so nicely centered, so nicely contrasted on white (and sparkling) Baryte, that i find myself shocked as i look at it again now, water-washed of 2 decades of dust that had hidden the true luster when I first saw the specimen in the 1990s (and indeed, never cleaned for years until now). This piece is not simply "just" a big display piece but is actually a truly important Mexican mineral, a truly important wulfenite, and just a large cabinet sized beauty from a historic find.
