Fluorite

It is extremely rare for Fluorite to form completely smooth, rounded botryoidal aggregates, and when it does the specimens look really weird. This is exactly the case with this miniature specimen from Mogok Township in Myanmar. It has a great soft blue-purple colour with white edges. Texturally, it looks very different to the lustre one would expect for Fluorite, but specimens of this form from this deposit are now well-known. Ex Arvid Pasto collection.

Editor's note

This fluorite is not at all common and has botryoidal (big word for "grape-shaped", i.e. round) crystals. This is an affordable piece of "weird" fluorite - great if you are curious about more than just aesthetics. This was at some point owned by Arvid Pasto, the author of "Collector's Guide to Fluorite" who collected unusual specimens like this one.
