Fluorite
Horní Slavkov (Schlaggenwald) in Karlovy Vary Region, Bohemia, Czech Republic is one of Europe's most famous historic mining towns dating back to the 13th century. Fluorite was first described from the Karlovy Vary Region, but despite this well-crystallized specimens are unusual. This richly coloured miniature specimen comes from Arvid Pasto's comprehensive worldwide Fluorite collection. The Fluorite forms a deep purple crystallized aggregate measuring 1.5 x 1.5 cm within a small cavity in massive milky vein Quartz. Under magnification it can be seen that the Fluorite consists of hundreds of rounded cubic crystals all stacked together in a stepped fashion. For Horní Slavkov the colour is exceptional.
