Elbaite with Lepidolite
The sharpness in form of the terminations on these prismatic Elbaite crystals from Coronel Murta in Minas Gerais, Brazil is staggering. They display perfectly flat, matt, pinacoid terminations, with just the tinniest of microscopic chipping around the edges. The main, 5.7 cm long Elbaite crystal, has one repair 1 cm below the termination, but although the fracture line is visible the repair is very smartly done. All of the Elbaite crystals display the same colour sequence: a gemmy pale raspberry pink lower and main body section; transitioning to a 2 mm wide teal-blue band and a very thin (0.5 mm) darker raspberry-red tip. Three Elbaite crystals are alligned parallel with a pale lilac purple aggregate of platy, micaceous Lepidolite crystals attached to their base. A further short (1.3 cm) gemmy Elbaite crystal is perched upon the Lepidolite. A fine miniature Elbaite from this modern-day classic Brazilian pegmatite occurrence.
