Elbaite with Lepidolite Hyalite, Cleavelandite on Quartz$600.00

This is a rather unusual pegmatite specimen from the now famous Coronel Murta area in Jequitinhonha Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Unusual, in that it shows the assemblage of most of the species recorded there, but in a complex intergrowth. This quite large piece is dominated by several co-joined faintly smoky coloured Quartz crystals, developed parallel to each other and sharing some prism faces, but with four individual pyramidal terminations. These Quartz crystals reach over 10 cm in height and almost as broad in their combined state. Penetrating through these at an angle of about 45 degrees from vertical is a prominent teal-blue prismatic Elbaite tourmaline crystal with a pink core. This crystal reaches 7 cm in length but its upper termination is poorly developed - intergrown with mica and truncated with a highly exaggerated one sided pyramidal face. Its lower end is a glassy fracture surface but this allows its pink internal colour and blue outer zone to be seen to good effect. Further smaller teal-blue Elbaite crystals are embedded around the sides of the Quartz crystals which on one side are encrusted with copious pale lilac-purple Lepidolite as clusters of small platy micaceous crystals. There is a sizable 'pocket' towards the base of the main prism face of the Quartz where another Quartz crystal was presumably once attached and on the other side a mass of white bladed Feldspar is embedded within the Quartz. A large and interesting pegmatitic specimen.
