This fine, 8.2 cm long, teal-blue Elbaite tourmaline crystal from Coronel Murta in Minas Gerais, Brazil, has two repairs across its middle section at 2.9 and 4.8 cm up from its base. It displays a pyramidal termination, but this is partially obscured by a small, 1.1 cm long Elbaite crystal, sloping across it at a shallow angle. Condition-wise, it is very good. Other than the repairs, the base is a clean break, and actually shows the internal structure of tourmaline incredibly well with its concave fracture and three curved sides to the prism. Natural growth lines form vertical striations along its entire length which take away a little of the glassy surface reflections but with backlighting the rich teal-blue colour shines through very well indeed. A good sized tourmaline from the now well-known pegmatites at Coronel Murta, and different from the usual pink-red colours.
